Follow live the opening of the G7 summit in Cornwall, UK. World leaders discuss a better distribution of vaccines and the options that open up in the post-pandemic world. It is also the first visit of Joe Biden as president of the United States to Europe.
As host, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has delivered a brief speech in which he has ensured that the leaders of the main powers share the vision of a greener and cleaner world after the COVID-19 pandemic. They also ensure that the technologies to achieve this will create millions of high-wage and highly-skilled jobs. “That is what the people of our countries want us to do. Make sure that something like this pandemic will never happen again, and rebuild in a greener, cleaner, more egalitarian, more feminine way, how about that.”
Before dispatching the journalists, remembering that what was supposed to be an informal conversation between world leaders had gradually turned into a media circus.
Leaders have promised to donate 1 billion doses of vaccines to developing countries. According to them, it is the only way to end the pandemic.
And not a G7 summit would not be a G7 summit without the demonstrations of activists, who this time have focused on demanding that world leaders make the fight against climate change their priority.
It is the first time that the leaders of the major powers have met “physically” in two years. Last year there was only one virtual meeting.
The summit has already left us the image of the leaders of the European Union around a table and without masks.
