The demonstration was announced, 1,500 tractors expected in Strasbourg at the end of the morning this Friday, April 30. The farmers of the Grand Est went to the European Parliament to try to put pressure on the CAP negotiations underway in Brussels.
About 1,500 tractors on the eastern highways this Friday, April 30, a demonstration announced and which caused, as expected, slowdowns. The tractors come from all over the Grand Est region and arrived in Strasbourg at the end of the morning. Their aim is for the European Parliament to put pressure on the discussions taking place right now between the Parliament, the European Commission and the Council of Europe regarding the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
In the streets of the European capital, peasant demands do not go unnoticed. At the origin of the movement, an appeal from the Departmental Federation of Farmers Unions (FDSEA) and Young Farmers (JA). Agricultural unions demand a CAP that “protects farmers and food sovereignty”. They fear in particular eco-regimes, which subject aid to environmental criteria and imposed crop rotations which, according to them, will lead to a drop in fodder near farms.

Pressure put on by farmers and denounced by environmental MEPs Claude Gruffat, Marie Toussaint and Benoit Biteau, who reacted this morning: “it is their European representatives who have largely contributed to writing this very bad copy of the CAP, which in addition to continuing to perpetuate the same model which devastates the climate, biodiversity, our health and the peasants themselves, will harm much more to organic farmers. We walk on the head! “
The demonstration must last all day then the tractors must leave at the end of the day, which should cause further disturbances on the roads of the Grand Est. The prefecture therefore recommends that motorists limit their trips.
