Up to 10:00 this morning, 8713 new corona infections were reported to the RIVM, 3,371 more than yesterday. The underlying trend is a completely different one: the number of infections is starting to decrease. The seven-day average has decreased by 3 percent from the week before. This is probably mainly because more and more people are vaccinated against the virus.
This is not reflected in today’s contamination figure due to a technical malfunction. This ensured that yesterday’s infection rate was artificially low and today’s figure is artificially high. Moreover, the number of positive tests is almost always higher on Wednesdays and Thursdays than in the rest of the week. This is because people have fewer tests during the weekend and there is then a ‘catching up effect’ during the week.
Rotterdam stands out with 492 infections. In Amsterdam (with roughly 220,000 more inhabitants) there were 351.
