Spotify has
“Spotify HiFi”
As part of the Spotify Stream On Event, a new subscription level for premium users in “selected markets” has been announced, through which music can be listened to with an even better quality. This also fulfills the most frequently expressed wish of users.
So far, Spotify has offered 320 kilobits per second (compressed) as the best sound quality. With Spotify HiFi there will be music in CD quality in the future in lossless audio format (around 1,410 kilobits per second) on all devices and speakers with Spotify Connect support. Music fans, according to Spotify, have the opportunity to experience the music with more “depth and clarity”. In line with this, Spotify has also released a promo clip with Billie Eilish and Finneas on Youtube:
The streaming provider is not yet providing any more precise information on how much Spotify HiFi will cost. They are also working with many large speaker manufacturers in order to be able to offer Spotify HiFi to as many users as possible via Spotify Connect. It is also still unclear whether Germany will be one of the “selected countries” in which Spotify HiFi will start.
The price for Spotify HiFi will of course be higher than the price for Spotify Premium (9.99 euros / month). Spotify is likely to orient itself towards the competition that already offers music streaming in hi-fi quality: For example, Tidal Hifi for 19.99 euros per month, Deezer Hifi for 15 euros per month and Amazon Music HD for 12.99 euros per month.
