Samsung: 4 years of Android security updates for Galaxy devices
Samsung announced today that it will provide Android security updates for its Galaxy devices for at least four years from the time the model is launched. This promise therefore applies to Galaxy models from 2019, also retrospectively. Examples of androids supplied with Android security updates are Galaxy Z, S, Note, A, M, XCover and the Tab model family.
Samsung will provide the security updates monthly or quarterly. You can check this Samsung website to see whether your Galaxy model gets its updates monthly or quarterly. The update promise applies both to security updates for the Android operating system developed by Google and to Samsung-specific security holes.
Samsung wants to achieve that Galaxy customers can feel safe in the long term when using their devices and know that their data is protected. Samsung would work closely with its operating system and chipset partners (i.e. Google and Qualcomm) and with over 200 cellular providers worldwide to ensure that the updates provided by Samsung actually reach all Galaxy devices in a timely manner. Samsung is committed to delivering security updates to its customers as soon as possible.
